    They may not all (in fact MOST are not) be bloodsuckers, but they are one of the most common species to carry rabies - particularily if the dog was able to catch it, and the dog is not vacinated I would be VERY worried.

    I would contact your local wildlife rehabber and/or vet clinic to check on the prevalence of this virus in bats in your area. I do beleive there is a site called Bat World, a yahoo search on that should bring it up, if not, seek assistance through the wildlife rehab websites below…many do rescue and rehab bats.
