Typical Oregon Person asked:

We have about 20 blocks down the old hole in the furnace in the house and fly around evry other night or so. I saw their roost through the ***** of the chimney and I think they are 100s of them there. Besides. It is the guano of the block dangerous? There is much in the attic but my uncle says there in the viruses from Hunt in guano in order to block the i did not go inside. Now just stinks.

Build a bat box and put it on the side of the house, as close to, and as level as you possibly can to where they’re going in. There are instructions on how to do it online and they are relatively easy to construct. We bought a house in 2006 that was infested with bats. We found out that they are protected during breeding season( which I think runs May to October?) in some areas, including mine, and we were trying to remove them humanely regardless.
At first nothing happened and I felt like an idiot with this stupid, two foot wide box on my house. Then I kept catching a glimpse of one or two hanging on the box periodically. It was like a National Geographic special happening right in my yard. I learned a new respect for bats. They moved into the box totally within six weeks and out of my house. I didn’t even get a 30 day notice!
Bat poop, I have been told, does in fact cause respiratory problems and can make you very ill. You really need to get them out of there, it’s safer for all of you if you do. The bat box gives them a more bat friendly residence that’s more accessible than your uncle’s furnace hole. By giving them ideal conditions outside the house, you eliminate the need to go in your uncle’s house.
Consider the bat box as an alternative to extermination. They do provide benefits. I’m the only person around here that isn’t over run with mosquitos during the summer…and we get them so bad in South Carolina, you could saddle them.

turn your house into a church. Baptise the bat’s. They’ll never come back.
